found the following post http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Pwnwear/~3/oehOqP1ERbY/ which has some info on how to tweek things to be faster in wow through an addon called tweakwow which lets you tweak things through the gui that are normally hidden (and do so while ingame, so you can for example switch to different visual settings in raid

Thanks Baridin I'll give it a go, my pc is better but still occasionally have problems in Dalaran. So this might make life easier.
