do we have a server yet

I think, the owner of the internet conncetion with the best bandwidth should be the server. So my one is 2mb download 512 mb upload.

Waverick has agreed to try to put something up for us at his company's server, but he has some work to do this weekend and can't have a look at it until like monday/tuesday.

But if noone goes out and rents us a server or hosts one, that can be a nice (free) solution, I think.

Xumi, you mentioned something about that it was possible to rent a server for 12$? Do you remember where?

I've been looking too (since the server Waverick put up has a delay for up to a few seconds), but the servers I've been looking at (leetvent, for example) are much more expensive.

Has anyone ever used TeamSpeak 2? Could it be a possible alternative for Ventrilo?

We've used it a lot with my friends when playing DotA or CoD(1-4) and it has worked well.

Team Speak

looked at teamspeak, it's better then ventrillo in that they explicitly allow free use for game guilds and the like (ventrillo doesn't AFAICT),
but problem is we need someone to host a teamspeak server, and that someone needs a good enough connection and fast enough computer for all of us to have good sound (i.e. home adsl isn't gonna work)

Is it expensive?
I'd say I'd consider sponsoring it, if I felt sure that people would wanna use it.

It'd be usefull yes, though ultimately it's no more then a nice-to-have IMO

VT or TS are nice, but hardly necessary. I don't think it cannot run on home PC with DSL internet connection but my PC doesn't run 24/7. We can always use the in-game voice chat thingy.

I think TS is quite lightweight. We have used it on home pcs, but ofc we have used it under LAN games so it might not work that well over internet. I have to check it out and ask from our usual LAN TS host about that.

I just checked the VT / TS hosting on one of the Czech hosting servers linked from the official TS website and it's roughly 5-6 EUR / month for 30 people. I also had a look at TeamSpeak server licencing and non-profit organizations (such as WoW guilds) don't need to pay any license fees so TeamSpeak server can really be hosted on a home PC (can't exceed 100 concurrent connections).

I can have a chat with one of my friends who's got a low-end Atom based PC acting as a server for webhosting for his friends and he's got a pretty good internet connection (way better than DSL in Czech Republic).
